Frequently Asked Questions
Everything You Need to Know Before Your Dog's Stay
We understand that leaving your furry family member in someone else’s care can come with a lot of questions—especially if it’s your first time. That’s why we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we receive. From first-time visits and special diets to outdoor time and play groups, we’ve got you covered.
🐶 I’ve never left my dog overnight before. Should I worry?
If your dog has never boarded before, we recommend scheduling a half-day visit so we can see how your pup acclimates to our facility. This also helps your dog get familiar with our environment and staff. Half-day trials are by reservation only.
We also want to reassure you—dogs take their cues from you. If you stay calm and positive at drop-off, your pet will feel more secure. Most dogs quickly settle in and have a great time with us!
📞 Can I call to check on my dog?
Absolutely! We encourage check-in calls during office hours, especially for first-time boarders or pet parents. We’re happy to give you an update and peace of mind.
💉 Are vaccinations required before my dog can stay?
Yes. For everyone’s health and safety, we require written proof of the following vaccines:
-
Rabies
-
Distemper/Parvo
-
Bordetella (within the last year)
We do accept titer test results if recommended by your vet. Please bring documentation.
⏱️ What are check-in and check-out times?
-
Check-in: After 12:00 p.m. (early check-in available for $10)
-
Check-out: By 10:00 a.m. (late check-out fee of $10 applies after 10 a.m.)
-
Office Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m., Monday–Saturday. Closed Sundays.
🏠 Will my dog be staying in a crate?
Nope! All dogs stay in comfortable kennel runs with stainless steel bowls, raised Kuranda cots, and soft bedding (as long as they’re not chewers!). Everything is sanitized twice daily.
☀️ How long will my dog be outside?
Outdoor time is weather dependent, especially during the hot Florida summers. We always prioritize your dog’s safety and comfort.
💳 Do I pay at drop-off or pick-up?
Whichever works best for you! Payment can be made at drop-off or pick-up. For extended stays, we do require half upfront.
🧠 Can my dog receive training or enrichment while boarding?
Absolutely! We offer refresher training for STK9 graduates and engaging nose work games during boarding or daycare stays. These must be scheduled in advance and are available Monday–Friday.
🏳️🌈 Are you an LGBTQ-safe and inclusive space?
Yes! Pasadena Pet Motel is proudly LGBTQ+ inclusive and welcoming to all pet parents. We’re also honored to offer discounts for military, firefighters, and first responders. Details are available on our Boarding page.
🌿 What if my dog has anxiety while we’re apart?
If your dog shows signs of stress, our staff can administer Nature’s Pet Herbals CBD oil (with your permission) to help ease anxiety naturally. CBD may also help dogs with arthritis, inflammation, digestive issues, and more.
If you’re interested, just let us know at drop-off or give us a call ahead of time.
📸 Can you send me a picture of my dog while I’m away?
While we don’t send personal photo updates, we frequently post pup pics on our Facebook page. Check in there to see if your dog is featured in the daily fun!
🍽️ Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
Yes! If your dog is on a special diet, just bring their food along with feeding instructions. We’re happy to follow your guidelines.
🥣 Do I have to bring my own food?
We recommend bringing your dog’s regular food to avoid GI upset. However, if you choose not to, we can provide high-quality food for an additional fee. More details can be found on our boarding page.
🌤️ How many times will my dog go outside each day?
Your dog will go outside at least six times a day—three sessions in the morning and three in the afternoon.
🐕 Do you mix big and small dogs in playgroups?
No. Playgroups are carefully curated by size, energy level, play style, and personality. All play sessions are supervised by trained staff.
🧸 Can I bring toys or bedding from home?
Yes! You're welcome to bring a favorite toy, blanket, or small bed to help your dog feel more at home. However, please note that we can’t guarantee the condition of personal items after their stay. For safety reasons, we may remove items that become hazardous (e.g., if chewed or soiled).
🐕 Can my intact (unspayed or unneutered) dog attend daycare?
Yes! Unlike many other facilities, we do not require spay/neuter for participation. Our expert staff supervises all playgroups and ensures appropriate pairings. Learn more on our Daycare page.
